Hong Kong International Airport - in short, HKIA (Airport Code: HKG) is the main airport for Hong Kong (HK).

Hong Kong Airport (HKG) has two Terminals - Terminal 1 and Terminal 2

HKG Terminal 1 is the main Terminal, whereas HKG Terminal 2 is Departure Only terminal for few low-cost Airlines.


All flights arriving and departing Hong Kong International Airport (aka Chek Lap Kok Airport) are International flights.


Transit Passengers with connecting flights follow signs to Transfer or go to Transfer Desk inside the terminal before Immigration Counters at HK Airport.

Passengers connecting to Macau or Mainland Ferry should follow the "Mainland/Macau Ferries" sign inside the terminal before Immigration counters at HK Airport.


Arriving Passengers with the destination as Hong Kong (HK) should head towards Immigration, collect bags from Baggage Claim, and clear Customs at this HK Airport.

Once you clear Customs with your bags, you will enter the Arrival Hall of Hong Kong Airport with Currency Exchange counters along the way.

Distance between Hong Kong Airport and City is about 35KM and is conveniently connected by Airport Express train, Public Buses, Shuttles, Taxi, and Limos.

Hong Kong Airport (HKG) to City by Airport Express Trains

Hong Airport to City (Hotel) by Airport Express Train:

Hong Kong Airport Express Train is the fastest way into Hong Kong City from Hong Kong Airport. 

Hong Kong Airport Express is an easy and convenient choice; however, not the cheapest one for going from HK Airport to the City.


- Once you enter the Arrival Hall at HK Airport, follow the signs to Airport Express Train station.

- Purchase tickets at the Ticket Counter or Ticketing Machines located in the arrival hall before Airport Express Entrance.

- We suggest going to the ticket counter in the arrival hall to purchase either a One-Way Ticket or Octopus Card (Smart Reloadable Card).

- There is usually a reduced-fare/ or discount for Groups of two or more, and sometimes children are free with an Octopus card.

  Check at the counter or online on Airport Express’s website or for fare information.

- Once you purchase the ticket, follow the signs "Train to City" or "Airport Express" and Board a city-bound Airport Express train

- The Hong Kong Airport Express train makes only three stops - Tsing Yi, Kowloon, and Hong Kong Stations.

   Airport Express Kowloon Station and Hong Kong Station are located in the central part of Hong Kong.

- For Hotels on the Kowloon side, get down at Airport Express Kowloon station.

   For hotels on Hong Kong Island side, get down at Airport Express Hong Kong station.
         
- Free hotel shuttles are provided exclusively for Airport Express passengers traveling from Airport to Hong Kong station or

   Kowloon station on Airport Express to major hotels located in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon areas. 

- Once you arrive at Airport Express Kowloon station or Airport Express Hong Kong station, locate the line for your free Hotel Shuttles.

- Complimentary Hotel Shuttles run every 20-minute frequency starting around 6 AM to 11 PM at Hong Kong and Kowloon Stations.

- OR Take a taxi cab from Airport Express Kowloon station or Airport Express Hong Kong station to your hotel.

Shared Shuttle from Hong Kong Airport to City Hotels :

The shared shuttle is available from the Hong Kong airport to all major hotels in the City.

Shared Shuttle Bus runs every 30 minutes from 5:30 AM - 9:30 PM (For Western District Hotels: 4 PM is the last shuttle)

Shared Shuttle allows 2 pieces of baggage per passenger.

If you want to use this Shared Shuttle service, go to the Commercial Services Counter in Arrival Hall B, Terminal 1

Taxi at Hong Kong Airport :

Ample Taxi Cabs are available at Hong Kong Airport.

If you have a group of 4 or more people and lots of luggage, a taxi might be a good option. 

Although probably the most expensive option, this might be the best as it will be equivalent to 4 people riding on the Airport Express. 

Hong Kong Taxi does offer door to door service from HK Airport.

You can get a taxi at the Taxi Station, located by the left-hand ramp outside the Arrivals Hall of HK Airport.

Taxis in Hong Kong are color-coded according to their operating areas.

Separate rows are designated for different types of taxi:  

Take Red color taxi for the Hong Kong Island and Kowloon side.


Private Car Pick-up at Hong Kong Airport :

You can also book a private car Pick-up for easy transfer to your hotel or destination in Hong Kong from Hong Kong Airport.

Many private companies offer Pick-up service from HK Airport.

Look for your name board in Arrival Hall, or you will be given a specific location to meet your driver with your booking confirmation.

Although the most expensive, Private Car Pickup provides easy and comfortable transfer after a long flight.

Public Buses at Hong Kong Airport

 

Public Bus from Hong Kong Airport :

Several buses go to/from the Hong Kong airport to City.  

They are not the fastest way to get to/from the airport but certainly are the cheapest.

Make sure that the bus stops are close to your hotel because maneuvering the streets with luggage can be difficult at times

The bus stop (Ground Transportation Center) is located outside the Arrival Hall.

To take a bus from the airport you need to get out of the Arrival Hall and turn right.

Follow the signs for the Ground Transportation Center.

You can pay with cash on the bus. You must pay the exact change in HK$.  

The bus driver will not give you a change.

You can also pay by Octopus Card.

Octopus Card can be purchased in the Arrival Hall at:

- Airport Express Ticket counter, Or

- Customer Service Center at the Ground Transportation Center. Or

- Any Convenience Stores like 7-11.

Or, you can buy a Cityflyer pre-paid roundtrip ticket (only for A routes Buses).

Purchase at the Customer Service Center at the Ground Transportation Center (Centre).

Please look for the specific bus routes for your hotel from the airport:

- A11 and E11A are the popular routes to/from the Hong Kong Island side to the Airport

- Bus route A21 is the popular route to/from the Kowloon Side to the Airport.

Transfer/Transit Information for Connecting Flight at Hong Kong International Airport

Transit/Connecting Flight or Ferry At Hong Kong Airport :

And if you are taking a connecting flight at Hong Kong International Airport

Already have a boarding pass, then check the departure screen for the status of your connecting flight:

- Follow the signs to the "Transfer" and go to the departure level for boarding gates

- You will have to go through security at Transfer Station

- Walk to your gate number at departure level once you are through security


If you don’t have a boarding pass, please go to the transfer desk:

- Follow the signs to the designated Transfer Desk Areas E1, E2, or W1 for check-in

- Collect your boarding pass at the transfer desk and present your checked-in luggage tag to secure your checked baggage transfer

- Once you get your boarding pass, follow the signs to "Transfer" to reach the departures level for boarding gates.

- You will have to go through security at Transfer Point

 

If you plan to go to Macao by Ferry from HKIA follow the signs for the Mainland/ Macau Ferries.

- Mainland/Macau Ferry counters are just before Immigration Counters at Hong Kong Airport

- Purchase Ticket or Show your Ticket as well as Baggage Tags at the Ferry Counter

- Your Baggage will be transferred to your ferry in case the final destination on your bags was Hong Kong

- Head towards Skypier to catch your Ferry. You will be taken to Skypier by Airport internal Automated train.

Hong Kong Hotel to Hong Kong Airport :

Check with the Concierge at your hotel and take the complimentary Airport Express Shuttle-bus from your hotel to the Airport Express station.

Airport Express Shuttle Bus runs in 20-minute intervals starting around 6 AM to 11 PM.

OR take other public transport or a taxi cab from your hotel to the nearest airport express station.  

Take the Airport Express train from the nearest Airport express Station (either Kowloon or Hong Kong Station) to the Hong Kong Airport.

Depending on your budget and time, you can also take a limousine, taxi, or private Airport shuttle bus from your hotel to the Airport.

Please check with bellhop or concierge at your hotel on most convenient way.
