The official currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollars (NTD or NT$)

Money Exchange (Cash)

In Kaohsiung Taiwan, one can exchange currency at the Airport, banks, big shopping malls, or hotels.

Banks exchange counters are available at the Kaohsiung Airport :

- before customs (after immigration but before customs), and

- in the arrival hall of Kaohsiung Airport.

A few currency exchange counters at Kaohsiung Airport are open 24 hours.

In the Kaohsiung city, banks are usually open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Banks are closed on Weekends and on Public Holidays.

Big mall currency exchange counters are open during mall hours and on weekends.


Remember to bring your passport as ID as it is required for all currency exchanges in Taiwan.

Credit Cards

Your credit card provides you a good exchange rate for purchases in the Taiwan.

Please check beforehand with your bank for additional fees for using your card in a foreign country.

Major credit cards including AMEX, Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in major Kaohsiung area establishments.

ATM

ATM machines allows cash withdrawal in local New Taiwan Dollars (NT$) using international credits cards like Visa/Plus and Mastercard/Cirrus.

Please check with your bank for any additional fees for using your ATM card in a foreign country.

Traveler's Cheques

Traveler's cheques are accepted by hotels, banks, and mall currency exchange counters in the Taiwan.

Traveler cheques may be subject to a fee in Taiwan.

Taiwan Currency Tips for Travelers

- Always have NT$ cash (Taiwan Local Currency) on hand as many small places or cabs will take cash only.

- Before leaving Taiwan, exchange any Taiwan Dollars (NT$) to US$ or another major currency as it is difficult to exchange NT$ outside of Taiwan especially small bills.
