Los Angeles - Venice Beach and Boardwalk - Helpful Travel Information


Venice Beach Boardwalk (“Ocean Front Walk” or just “the boardwalk) stretches about one a half miles along the beach south of Santa Monica.

Movies and TV often feature Muscle Beach, Skate Dancing plaza, the numerous beach volleyball courts, the bike trail and the businesses and residences on Ocean Front Walk.

The boardwalk is full of hundreds of street vendors and performers.

The boardwalk stores offer all sorts of odds and ends, and people watching is great!

Getting There

 

By Car to Venice Beach in LA :

From the North (Valley)

• Head south on I-405

• Take the exit toward Venice Blvd.

• Merge onto Matteson Ave.

• Turn right at Sawtelle Blvd.

• Turn left at CA-187/ Venice Blvd. and continue to follow at Venice Blvd.

• Make a slight right at Venice Way

From the East (Downtown)

• Take the I-10 west

• Take Lincoln Blvd exit

• Merge onto Olympic Blvd.

• Turn left at CA-1/ CA-2/ Lincoln Blvd. and continue to follow Lincoln Blvd.

• Turn right at Ocean Park Blvd.

• Turn left at Neilson Way

• Continue at Pacific Ave.

From South (LAX) - 7.7 miles away

• Head north on I-405

• Take the exit onto CA-90 west towards Marina del Ray

• Turn right at CA-1/ Lincoln Blvd.

• Turn left at CA-187/ Venice Blvd.

• Make a slight right at Venice Way

Venice Beach Parking:

Multiple Public and Private Paid-parking lots or Garages are available for parking on N Venice Blvd.

Bus from Downtown LA :

• Take Metro Rapid 12 to Santa Monica.

• Exit and Transfer from Santa Monica/ Westwood Blvd stop to Route 1 of the Big Blue Bus

Recommendations

 

- Plan for the whole day!

  Visit Muscle Beach Gym, where Arnold Schwarzenegger once worked out.

  Try biking or skating the bike path. Go north and head into Santa Monica.

  Go south, and ride all the way to the Palos Verdes peninsula (@17 miles).

  Bike and Skate rentals are available along the boardwalk.

- Don’t forget to see the Venice Boardwalk Area Murals the Venice Canals.

  Directions:

  Head south on the boardwalk,

  take a left on South Venice,

  past the street lights (Pacific Ave) and go one more block past Strongs Ave.

  Feed the ducks!

Tip: Save time and avoid getting a parking ticket at the Venice Beach area.

      Park at city parking lots next to the Venice beach. The parking fee ranges from $4-$25 a day.

      Most lots are within walking distance.

      Most lots fill up fast so start early, especially on weekends. Take a bus if you can!
