New York City - Brooklyn Bridge and Park - Helpful Information for Visitors


Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest and longest (6,775 ft) suspension bridge connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn in NYC.

New York Brooklyn Bridge construction started in 1869 and was completed in 1883, took 14 years to build this iconic bridge in NYC.

NYC Brooklyn Bridge was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service, and an NYC Landmark by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

• Bike across the bridge:

Rent a bike.  The bridge has separate bike paths to navigate. The access ramp at Tillary and Adams Street is the easiest to access by bike.

• Walk across the bridge:

Use the Brooklyn Bridge Walk pathway to go across from Brooklyn to NYC or vice versa.

• View the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan or Brooklyn:

Go to a waterfront park in Manhattan like Fulton Empire State Park or the Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn for spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge.

• Visit the Brooklyn Bridge Park after crossing the bridge into Brooklyn.  Visit its riverfront promenades, gardens, and city views.

• The Brooklyn Bridge connects lower Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York

Getting There


By Subway to Brooklyn Bridge in NYC :

From Manhattan :

- Take the 4, 5, or 6 train to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall or

- Take N or R train to City Hall

- Take the 2 or 3 train to Park Place.

- To walk across the bridge from Manhattan, access the bridge near City Hall Park at Park Row and Centre Street. 

- Look for the big red arrow which will take you to the pedestrian walkway.

From Brooklyn :

- Take the A or C train to High Street or the 2 or 3 train to Clark Street.

- You can access the pedestrian walkway at Tillary/Adams Streets or a staircase on Prospect St between Cadman Plaza East and West.

 Recommendation

• I like to come to the bridge early morning (less crowded) and watch the sunrise as I am having my coffee and bagel; or
   Before Dawn to watch the sun go down and then watch the city lights. Better yet do both!  A must-do in NYC.

• Combine with a visit to City Hall, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Chinatown (Canal St), Little Italy, Statue of Liberty, or Wall St.

• There is a pay what you want tour available by Tours by Foot.  They have many options, this is great for history buffs!

• Many people like to leave a keepsake like a lock with your names on it, a ribbon, or something small on the bridge.

• A great way to tour the Bridge is by renting a bike.  

  You can rent using a private company or the NYC bike ride share Citi Bike program which is generally cheaper.
