Tokyo - Meiji Jingu - Travel Guide

Meiji Jingu or Shrine (明治神宮) is dedicated to Emperor Meiji ( the emperor of modern Japan) and Empress Shoken.

This Meiji shrine is one of Japan’s most popular shrines.

Located next to Yoyogi Park, it is a peaceful and lovely place for a stroll.

The main complex of the Shrine is marked by a giant (torii) gate.

Once at the shrine, feel free to wash your hands before making offerings at the main hall, buying charms, or writing prayers on an ema (decorative wood board).

At the northern end of the shrine, there is the Meiji Jingu Treasure House.

The house displays the personal belongings of the Emperor and Empress.

The Museum Annex Building located east of the main shrine area displays temporary exhibitions.

South of the Meiji shrine area is the Inner Garden.

The Garden at this Meiji Jingu shrine is popular especially in June when the flowers are in bloom.

Visitors can go to Kiyomasa's Well in this shrine complex.
