The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (aka Tochō) contain the offices and the assembly hall of the metropolitan government of Tokyo.

This building is located in Shinjuku area among the cluster of Skyscrapers and has two towers North and South with Observation decks.

This Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observation decks are on the 45th floor (202 meters) of its towers provides views of all of Tokyo.

From the South Observation Deck and/ or the North Observation Deck you can see Meiji Jingu, Tokyo Tower, the Tokyo Skytree, and Mount Fuji (clear day).

Getting to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Tokyo

Tokyo Subway to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building :

- Take the Oedo Subway line to Tocho-mae Station (basement of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building)
- Go up the escalator to the first floor and take the elevator to observation decks.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building by JR Train in Tokyo :

- Take JR JR line to JR Shinjuku Station
- Exit Shinjuku Station from the West Exit
- Walk 10-15 from JR Shinjuku Station to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
- Enter building to first floor and take elevator to observation decks.

 

Recommendation and Tips for visiting Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Decks

 

- Go during the late afternoon. Sit down at their bar/cafe and watch the sun go down.     
  Sunsets are a spectacular orange! The observatories are open until 11 PM.

- On the first floor there is a visitor center.
  Make sure to go in and see the various displays and Japanese handcraft items.
  Good place to buy authentic and locally made handcrafts.

- These observation towers are less crowded than other towers in Tokyo.
  If you want to save money and still be able to see the whole city, then this is a good choice.
  This attraction can take 2 or more hours if you go to both towers.
