Sensoji Temple is one of Tokyo's most popular and oldest Buddhist temples (645 AD).

Visitors enter the temple complex through the outer gate, Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate).

The Nakamise, shopping street, leads from the Kaminarimon to the Hozomon (second gate).

Getting to Sensoji Temple in Tokyo

By Tokyo Subway to Sensoji Temple in Tokyo :

- Take the JR Yamanote Line or JR Chuo Line to Kanda Station
- From Kanda Station transfer to the Ginza Subway Line for Asakusa
- Exit at Asakusa Station and follow signs
- Exit Station and Walk to Temple

Below three Subway lines have stop at Asakusa :
1). Tobu Skytree Line
2). Toei Asakusa Line
3). Tokyo Metro Ginza Line

Tsukuba Express line also have stop at Asakusa.

 

Recommendation and Tips for visiting Tokyo Sensoji Temple

 

• This is an active temple and many Japanese come to pray so please be respectful when visiting.

• Shop at the stores outside the first gate. They tend to be cheaper. Great place for souvenirs and trinkets.

• This area is extremely busy and crowded. Go early and on weekdays!
   Walk along the sides of Nakamise. There are generally less people.

• Visit Observation deck on the top floor of Tourist Visitor center apposite to main gate of temple.
