Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon (Secret Garden) is one of the four preserved royal palaces built by the Chosun Dynasty in Seoul.

Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul is the only Korean Palace on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Changdeokgung Palace consists of 13 buildings and 28 pavilions occupying 110 acres (45 hectares).

The Huwon or Biwon, rear or secret garden, is 78 acres (32 hectares) of gardens constructed for the royal family and palace women.

Buildings at Seoul's Changdeokgung Palace are made of wood and blend into its woody and serene surroundings.

You can even take off your shoes and sit in one of the pavilions at Changdeokgung Palace!

By Seoul Subway to Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul :

- Take Subway line 3 to Ahngook station

- Take Exit 3 of Ahngook station and walk for 5 minutes to reach Changdeokgung Palace

- Take Subway line 1, 3 or 5 to Jongro3ga station

- Take Exit 6 at Jongro3ga station and walk for about 10 minutes to reach Changdeokgung Palace

Seoul City Tour offers a Hop-on Hop-off tour bus with a stop at Changdeokgung Palace (Palace Namsan route).

Seoul City Tour bus runs their “Downtown Palace Namsan Route” from 9:00 AM to 06:00 PM every 30 minutes (Tue - Sun).

Monday is a holiday/Closed day for Seoul City Tour except if Monday is a public holiday

Seoul City Hop-on Hop-off Tour Bus Downtown Palace Namsan route starts at Gwanghwamun Station.

Bus Stop is at 50M straight ahead at Exit 6 of Gwanghwamun Station on Line 5 (ticket booth next to Chosun Ilbo).

Recommendations and Tips for Visiting Changdeokgung Palace

 

- This attraction will take you at least 4 hours to walk the palace and garden areas.

- You will be walking outside most of the time so wear good shoes, sunscreen/hat or umbrella in summer, and bring water.

- The Huwon or Secret Garden requires a reservation online or by voucher (exchange at the ticket office).

   Make sure to book early, this is very popular especially in spring and offer a limited number of tickets.

- If you plan to go to 3 or more palaces, buy a Book of combination tickets which includes admission to -

   Gyeongbok, Changdeok, Gyeonghui, and Changgyeong palaces;

   in addition, it includes the Secret Garden (Huwon) at Changdeok Palace and Jongmyo Royal
  Shrine for $10,000 Won per adult.

   Tickets must be used within 3 months.
